<question>Okay. Do you still have relatives there?</question>

<answer>Last year.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Last year. So what family members have you got
left there?</question>
<answer>My uncle, aunty, my cousins, cousin wife and his
sons and all family.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Okay. Did you go to school there?</question>
<answer>Yeah.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>To what age?</question>
<answer>Up to sixteen.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Sixteen and what happened after sixteen, did you?</question>
<answer>After sixteen I have been to here in Bradford with
my Dad. And I found a job according to situation that
time and at that time was 42 and half hour in a week and
every man, woman and children was very hard working and,
for forty-two and half I got 4 Pounds for a week wage and these
days unbelievable things are like that. It's matter of
1963, that's the rate was you know. When the hard worker
were getting 7 - 8 Pounds the weekly rate you know, I was glad
I got 4 Pounds; gross. Not in my pocket.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>So you said you came with your father. Did just
you and your father came over?</question>
<answer>Yeah.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Okay. And what was the reason for that?</question>
<answer>The reason was, actually we were farmer there. Farm
is a, in England as you know, no dividing. One son,
eldest son is keeping in England farm. But in India, if
one farmer have the five sons and three daughters
suppose, so eight family member is it you know. Then it
will divide into eight parts, you know. When a farm will
divide in to eight parts what left for each person?
After one or two generation nothing left there. It will
be only for a few yards, each have the share. That's
where then, I can say that, in India Government should
be, make it like that you know, limited farm you know, up
to that one can't cut it more than that, you know.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Oh, I see, so it gets broken up in to lots.</question>
<answer>Yeah. So instead of cutting, cutting, cutting and
dividing into yards few of equal shares of brothers and
sisters, that was the big problem there. If we lived
there, it were not enough farm for us to add, we have the
fifteen members there. So we had to go to somewhere else
to get the job and get the money and settle our life.
That was the main reason.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Okay makes sense. So how many, do you have any
brothers or sisters?</question>
<answer>I have two brothers and three sisters.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>And did they not come either then?</question>
<answer>One sister in India and other sister and my other
two brothers and two sister are here.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>And, so what was your father's name?</question>
<answer>My father's name is Tirthram.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>So you came over to look for a job and you came
straight from India.</question>
<answer>Yeah.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>So did your father get his, what they call it sort
of, his passports?</question>
<answer>He had the British passport, 1962 when he been to
India and 1973, I got the permission from the High
Commissioner in New Delhi to, I can go with my father to
Britain and join with my father. So I had been to my
father in 1963 so.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>So you were only sixteen, but can you remember the
journey over and what time of the year was it when you
came here?</question>
<answer>It was a 10th of June, 1963.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>So it wasn't too cold then?</question>
<answer>It was very cold, Bradford.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Was it?</question>
<answer>And the smoke was too much going through the chimney.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Oh yeah too much, yeah.</question>
<answer>And lights were very small on the backside of the
city, besides the stone was in the street backsides you
know. And the toilets was outside, I have to go four,
five step down after ten yard to go to toilet. And there
were no water hot system. Just put the Kitli on the
cooker and make our hot water. And we have no bathroom
and that time people have no bathroom inside the house
you see. That changed in 1970, '69-'70.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Yeah.</question>
<answer>We got the grants and we got the partitions in the
room and make the bathrooms, toilets, sink, all setting them.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Okay and what area did you stay in Bradford?</question>
<answer>Mostly, I stayed in Bradford 3.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>What about when you first came over, because there
couldn't be much of the Hindu community here at that
time, so what was that like, you know?</question>
<answer>Yeah, at that time, not matter of Hindu or Sikh or
whoever we was, you know it was one thing in our mind,
you know, I have the ability to work hard. My father, my parents told me you know, if
you want to achieve something in the life, you will hard
worker. Either mail factory or anywhere, you must be honest or
must be punctual, must be hard worker and must be loyal. These
loyalty bring me up. My way of life is not shivering or like
that, you know. My way of life like a Military man. What his
duty, understand it and right time - right action.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Yeah.</question>
<answer>Sleeping time - sleep, wake time - waken up, going
home, work time must go to work. If I will tell you I am
working in my job, thirty years on the job as a bus
driver. If you come to my house you won't get, in my
house clock with alarm. What time I am going to,
separate times I am going to work, four o'clock - five
o'clock, no need now to me somebody wake me up, my wife
or alarm.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Is wife there?</question>
<answer>My wife, my life punctual, make me like that, I
always wake up three thirty - quarter to four, brush,
toilet and one after other thing, bath taking then pray,
then listen the television with those who are, picture
hour and religious programs, who is head of our Hinduism,
I will listen that.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>And you said you kind of got that from your
father, I mean, your father was like that too, was he
very hard working?</question>
<answer>My father was a really hard worker. He was working
in a foundry, Birmingham. And he was working in a Cross
Flat, there was a mouldry job, you know.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Oh, yeah.</question>
<answer>There they melt the iron and make the parts of the
all, everything's you know. It was not easy job and the
job was too heavy really, really good muscles. So he was
doing that job and he told me, "whatever you get the
money, if you eat it I don't mind". You will come back
without, make that excuse "I got headache, I can't do the
job, you won't win my son". So I got that idea from my
father and that idea's make me loyalty, respectful person
in the community after the long time. I am working on,
thirty years on the buses, '60 working year. And just
day-before-yesterday, I talked to, I had an interview
with my Managing Director on some matters for next
course, you know. And he was asking me few questions,
you know and same like that. I asked them, you know can
you find, give me, in my record, ever sent, five minute
late for my job and not loyalty and I am doing public
behave, if I am not in my brain anything catching right
thing, what time, what to say, what not to say to the
right person, right time and how I can solve the problem
then, then I will go get in argument with, with many
passengers you know. I am dealing with four - five
hundred passengers every day. So must we know the, how I
should behave others and what kind I am meeting the
peoples. As you know on the buses, there is no top
peoples coming on the buses, they have the cars and they
have many other facility, only middle class peoples and
little bit low class people are coming on the buses,
getting on the buses, you know through there income. So
we have to accept that they, you know we can't accept
that they will speak us as a high level very loyal
person, you know. So I am not expecting it.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>No.</question>
<answer>And people are someone was asking me you are a mind
reader. I am not mind reader, through my thirty year
experience; I know what they are expecting from me and
what I can do, what I can give them or what I cannot
give, honestly. If some would tell me really, I have
this problem this one, little money, short of money or
whatever, then no problem we can sort the problem, no
problem. If somebody dishonest, doing the wrong things,
attitude wrong, everything wrong, you know and looks his
way of speaking wrong and everything wrong then with a
sensible way what can we do?</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>So do you think that, I mean specially in the
early days, you have that sort of attitude when you first
came here. Do you think people were a lot more they'd
want you be more respectful to you because you were hard
working or like that. You think that was just?</question>
<answer>That time after World War II up to 1980 - '85,  '45
to'85, 40 years every man, every woman, every child who
ever worked 40 years, 1945 to 1985 in England, they have
too much here in England, because they did the hard jobs,
they developed the country too much, they have, I can too
much share to develop this country. Once develop of
country, then easy to take it then further, then get the
benefit of it. Now we are getting the benefits of it,
you know. If I explained you one thing, you know when I
have a child, you know in 1966 December, my first child
you know and that time first child not getting any
allowance, now my grandson is getting 5 Pounds, first child.
So it's big different at that time and now, you know.
And that time there were, no any as we are getting five
day working and we have little income that we can have
the compensation from the other side you know. Too many
loss in the favor of us, you know worker. That time no
any extra money. You do work, hard work and go to, after
5-6 days for the bathroom pay them five pence and he will
fill the hot water in the bath for you and you relax in
them and come back home you know. This was our life, you
know. And some people were working 18 hour continuous
you know night shift more than, Friday starting 6 o'clock

<answer>Yeah. In the house, you know. Somebody have the
back to back house in 1967. Old back to back house and
we put some picture there and, one of our teacher was,
you know he was explaining on Bhagwat Gita, what is Lord
Krishna saying and I was also little interested and then
one day he was explaining to us from Gita about our
caste, you know and his meaning was, "God in every person
and God make this earth and nobody up and down" you know.
If I am doing work as a bus driver, if I am a good driver

Wherever I am, I must be honest there I should know how
to do the job and everything. If I am even cleaning the

<question>So, would you say that your father, because there
is this sort of things that our father kind of upheld
those old beliefs of working hard and stuff, would you
say he was a religious man, your father?</question>
<answer>No, he was a responsible person in the family.
Responsibility is the main thing, you know. How
responsible you are, and the how idea you have in your
mind, you know. Are you responsible for you wife, are
you responsible for your parents, are you responsible for
your nearest and dearest one! That's individually every
person. If you are responsible, you will be punctual,
you will be good; I am not a responsible anything, nobody
can make me responsible. My ideas through my parents,
through my holy books, through the respectable person in
the community, through our reading books, saints, good
ideas, philosophy of God that can bring me high level of
knowledge person. And whatever I had in my mind is
knowledge I've got it; so that will work in my life.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>I will just, I didn't touch that before but do you
find it difficult at that time to get more exotic food
and also spices and also clothes and stuff like that like--?</question>
<answer>Yeah, we have the problem in the starting, you know
when I been to here, I face some problem. So I start
taking eggs and other things, you know and as my father
information, "Son, be strong man, if you won't be strong
enough you can't work". You wont be good and the
respectful person in the community. Our family will live
in a poor, very poor stage and you can't be rich then.
If you want to be rich, you must be hard worker and be
honest and time will come after a few years, if your way
of work is right and you know how to spend money, and
where to spend money, where not to spend, where not to
go, where to go, when to go, right time, right attitude,
right action, if you have the knowledge nobody can stop
you be rich by your idea, by your financial rich, nobody
can stop it. When the sun will come on the sky dark will
go away, nobody can stop it. Same thing is about
honesty, loyalty and you. If you are in your life any
person doesn't matter in this world any person in this
world, honest, hard worker, loyalty in them you are a
pure, you will never be poor. You will be rich. By
financial, by his ideas he will get the respect from
other people, from those who are really good people, from
them. I am not talking about the evils people. Evil
people have no idea, they will respect the evil people,
bad peoples.</answer>
</qaset>

</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Where?</question>
<answer>I am living in a Bradford, 1963 forty-one years,
racism Bradford vandalism, I have seen two-three
vandalism, they throw the petrol bomb to our temple. I
got the telephone from someone warning to our temple and
they say, "save your temple". I explain to my society,
my society say do not, they say it's only joke and
somebody are lying, so they throw the bomb just we left
the temple, petrol bomb and that were the only one
community in the world those who are doing many just you
know, wherever they are. I am not against any individual
person, I am individually the bad thing you know which
are bad action law you know, throwing the petrol bomb to
the normal people's those who are peacefully living here
and nicely to live. And one thing in my life, no one,
English people hate with me or I'll find the racist, I
found only that time when riots start here before, that
time I feel because so many people burn shops and too
much damage and millions pounds peoples they ready to one
community everybody know in this Bradford. They done
two-three time damage, million pounds damage and shops
and only they slept the only one community that were the
English people property and Hindu's property, they damage
them, they did not damage any their own community, a
single shop. Then the other side of National Front have
the ideas you know, for them to stop it, then the going
and then they coming on the bus, then they feel I am one
of them, but I am not one of them. I will be pure, I
will be honest, I will feel it, they are all my brothers
and sisters. I am more honest, more pure, I love the
honest person, I not color war, no anything in my mind
who he, I like every person in this world, God make every
person, each and every person, God make this world and
his Sun is giving light to every one, why I can, not
listening to the God commandment you know, why I will
follow to the evil's idea as you know, what they are
doing I, it should not affect on my life actually. I am
so strongly opinious.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>

meeting me going separate and I am running, talking and
same Bay house and all creation going like that you know

<answer>Yeah.  You asking any question.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Have you ever, have you had any sort of spiritual
experience ever or?</question>
<answer>Spiritual?</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Spiritual? You know if you had to like a,
experience with, a religious experiences at all.</question>
<answer>Yeah. To good yes I have. And that experience you
know through the pictures, through my reading, through my
practical life, if that helping me. Which one is my
ideas I way of my life living I am not expecting any
bodies from somebody donate me or give me anything, I am
praying to God, give my body good health and good ideas
in them so all the time I will be happy. I will be
joyful for other people help. God given me two hands I
can work hard and one more to eat it, I can give ten
people food, I am still at the age of 58-60 working
regularly every week. I proud I am not working only six
day, other day I am working in our temple, I am working
in my house, gardening other things, keep watching and
keep telling my sons, grandsons, granddaughter, talk to
them lovely and sit with them, enjoy with them and talk
to them, you know really. I am enjoying you know.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Do you think it's important to do charity work
then? You are saying that you do work inside the temple
and stuff but do you think that's important?</question>
<answer>Yes very important. Very important for me.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>The next little thing I am going to move on to is
just basically for last for now is like Hinduism today
basically obviously I gather from what you say you are
more religious now than you were maybe when you were
younger, the older you get the more important I guess.
What about all the, what about the youth, what about
Hindus the younger Hindus today would you say they are
more or less?</question>
<answer>Yes Hindu younger you know is same like me when I
was young you know. My family was just like picture you
know family my grandfather was. He was explaining me few
things in Sanskrit you know, he can do the marriages and
he can do the all through Mantras you know, everything
which one needed ceremony you know. On the birth child
and when he die or when marriage or all fourteen our
function you know which one need it in the life you know.
Hindu have believe in forty and I do not taken it you
know. When I being to here you know I have that hair
bent thing you know. I, when I heard the Gita from our
one of my teacher explanation then I have the little bit
other ideas you know. I think he is not explaining me
the right Gita, so I must read myself. So that thing
bring me up you know to wake me up. I was interested in
them is he right master?</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Sorry.</question>
<answer>Is he the right person who explaining meaning doing
the meaning of Gita or am I right in my mind when I was
at time 20 year old you know. So that thing bring me up.
So I keep listening them, keep listening them keep study,
keep study up to today.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>So do you think that the youth have the same
opportunities to do that, it is the younger, the younger?</question>
<answer>Younger it's depend on your family you know. Some
if the parents have something it's already in your houses
something you know. Everybody in your house you know you
can frame the meaning. If parents don't know anything in
the house it's hard for you too you know. Any, anything
in the parents, anything parents doing job or anything
child can get that few percent automatically. God have
them in chains.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Sorry. Do you think it's important for, do you
think it is important to learn, for the younger Hindus to
learn their mother's tongue?</question>
<answer>It's depend on you know any person you know all
language are quite good you know then no problem.
Problem is you know and if you are English you know how
many English people are going to be Hindu in this world,
there are some you know, some are changing.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Couple of, there is couple of thousand.</question>
<answer>Yeah few of them you know. If you are good Hindu no
problem in this world you know you are good. If you are
good Muslim, no problem in this world. If you are a good
Christian, Budh, Jain any religious if you are good no
problem. When I am bad Hindu name I am calling I am
Hindu, good Hindu then the trouble start. So be a honest
with the commandment. You don't mix the commandment you
know it's not like that. Sun will go on the sky and the
dark won't go and if the dark is not going sun is in the
sky, something wrong there. So believe these things you
know. God commandment always be pure, be perfect.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Yeah you can't like picking shoes.</question>
<answer>No, it's not like that. Any religious they are
everyone saying I know I am not only in Hinduism I have
little study about other religious too little one
knowledge. But I believe where have they have the
commandment, those who have the commandment ten testament
or whoever left with war that's the only difference I
notice through my knowledge. Add ten good commandments
have in the Christianity. We are literate more, Hinduism
that's the only ten plus as vegetarian and other things
you know we have little bit more you know. Only that's
the differences I am knowledge, got the knowledge. Other
top ten are there in Hinduism, other religious same is
also like that. So million people are Christian, million
people are Hindu, million people are Muslim you know.
Why? They are good you know what bad thing you are
mixing any dirty thing in the water and can't see on
anything in it. So the same thing when we not keeping
the God, God commandment honesty way understand them and
doing the bad in the name of God, then God is not with
us. We can't make the God fool each and every person he
knows what's way, which way we are feeling and what
action we are going to do and what we will get the result
of it. Be honest, be pure, be loyal.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Okay this is about it. Okay just quickly on the
caste issue, do you think it's still applicable?</question>
<answer>Yeah that's a good question really you ask me. You
know Hinduism there is a caste system, one is Brahman
high levels, second is a Kshtriya fighter Army, third is
farmer and businessmen, fourth is servant.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Is that Shudra?</question>
<answer>Servant, servant, those are working under somebody
right. So every person have the not same ability through
his brain you know. Not say everybody can't very
brilliant knowledge you know they are Ph D can do it,
high degree. So we believe it, people have five kinds
level of knowledge you know and those who are very
brilliant in knowledge here, they can do the Ph D high
level get a doctor, engineer or master of any subject.
No problem in their life. They have good money and
honesty kind, go work it you know no problem and second
thing is we can, I have no too good brain second stage in
I am good healthy and honest and I can work hard I can
join the military, protect my country border and whatever
my orders coming from behind you know I have to work it
and get the money for that and fulfill our duty live
better day right. That's the second stage. Third stage
I have not that ability now suppose I have my own farm as
I have in my India for there was problem for five six
shares in them little one divided and we stay all there.
So we too be poor stage level or to leave that place to
find someone else job in this world or anywhere to go and
to live better way. So that's the third way to do the
business farm doing or any job anything doing that.
Farmer business giving the water to grow in the farm and
sell them and get back the things and fulfill our desire,
family's done third thing. Fourth thing I have not that
knowledge I have no farmer not that knowledge, then I
have knowledge only, very little knowledge, little brain
my working then I can brush, I can clean the buses, I can
do any job little one and get the little money five six
pound and honesty way work and I can fulfill my desires
and live. So every person has the separate ability and
for can be possible all engineers, all PhD or all degree
or all military men we got we need the military men to
protect our country we need the police, we need the
engineer, we need the doctors, we need the nurses, we
need the somebody to clean footpath, road works, all jobs
they will do. So God make we need all kind peoples as
function our body is doing everyone eyes is looking, ear
are listening and tongue is speaking every function of
our body separate job is doing. Same thing God make this
world you know. King need the servant, servant need the
king, rich man need the poor, poor need the rich man.
Factory men need the worker and we need the factory. The
God make it like that not me and you make it. Every see
think it deeply we will know they will get through our
job money. If we won't go to work, the factory won't
run. They need us we need their help and God say and
holy book saying after your father next is your whoever
wherever you are working feel it, he is your father like
uncle.  Respect them.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>I know like in Gita, Bhagwat Gita it talks quite a
bit about importance of different, the different caste system.</question>
<answer>No that was the, I am coming to you that point you
know then I have same feeling, when I was twenty year old
you know, I was in Brahman family, I were feeling, I am a
highest level. I am on the highest level because I am
Brahman family born. By my birth I am the highest
person. How can we, suppose I will put the Coat white
one, with the doctor one and put everything on my ear you
know. And to check somebody when I have no qualification
as a doctor. I will harm my, harm the person and harm
myself, unrespectable person I will go. Same thing it
God like that you know, I have no ability how I can go
there picture, on the stage. I will speak wrong word,
wrong idea, wrong commandment, how long they will listen
me? They will kick him out. I am not right person on
their stage. Be honest you should know what ability I
have it, work about the truth. So we, some people say
it's a Shudra specially, that's bad word, tell me, Shudra
means we call it Servant. As I am a bus driver, work
under somebody. I am working there and with the
respectable, they give me money every Thursday I am
getting money and fulfill all my desires you know
honesty, what is wrong with it. But in my country some
people think this way, they are Shudras means they are
lowest caste. It's not lowest caste. How can we Ph D
everybody tell me. How can we very high rank military
man. How can we everybody good farmer. You know there
is no one, no farms everywhere you know.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Yeah. Aren't we all servants anyway there because
we take Tony Blair, he done Ph D and stuff but he still
serves.  Is that?</question>
<answer>Yeah. He is doing service and on his level, he is
doing the service on his level.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>But he still serves the people. Is it?</question>
<answer>Yeah he is serving the people. Every, every person
serving the people, even farmer, Military man, he have
that responsibility, he have the what to do but not to do
through their courses you know. For duty are little
different for the military man and the farmer and the
servant you know. There are some special duties on every
level separately to one. Some are equal everybody, some
of them different. So some of different high levels they
are getting extra money for that, I am a doing little low
level person, what I am that the honesty and the hard
worker I am fulfill my desires.  I don't feel I am a
anybody down. Tony Blair is doing his right job you
know, I respect them. He have the ability and people

speak on the stage, they are listening me what I am
telling them God commandment or whatever I am telling
them they believe, I am telling them the right thing.</answer>

<qaset>

</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Okay. How do you categorize yourself, would you say.</question>
<answer>My actually my home is here, by my mind I am in the
world of two. My family is not for five members, my
family millions peoples you know through my knowledge.
So many are my uncles, so many my aunties, so many are
my, my sons like that nephew then all my grandsons,
granddaughters age are my grandson and granddaughter. My
feeling is this whole world is my family.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Okay, so it's finally just anything else, any
final thought, anything else you would like to say?</question>
<answer>I have many things to say you know. As I mentioned
you, you know what ability you have useful to you for
others you know and how you can bring the loyalty in
peoples and honest to make the peoples you will be the
right first. If I have suppose I hard work and I have
some money and saved it, somebody come to me and request
to me, give me money for loan or whatever you know, I can
give them. If I when then I have no money, no saved
somebody ask me, even I want to give him I can't give.
Simply that that's the true thing. So same thing is God,
if I say somebody to speak the truth I must speak the
truth then it will effect, then it will work. If I am
liar not speaking the truth and telling on the stage
always speak the truth, it won't work because truth is
not in my life. Be honest, be loyalty, be good, be pure.
So many loyal things into your life should come and the
people with respect you wherever you go in this world
never mind in your house wherever you go people will
respect you. All community doesn't matter which, which
color, which nationality they have it, he will respect
you through your loyalty. That's your individually life.
Be good.</answer>
</qaset>
<qaset>
<question>Thank you.</question>
</qaset>
